Gripp Grants Awarded in November 2006
After raising more than $30,000 from the Kelly Miller Circus fundraiser in September, the Foundation was able to fund innovative programs for District 39. Three new Gripp Grant applications were approved on November 1.
Professional Development: Differentiation Support Teachers Cathy Flemming, Suzanne Goff, Ellen Logan, Bev Taylor, Katie Lee, Susan Dennison, and Katey Sherman were awarded funds to attend the National Association for Gifted Children annual convention.
Rebels without Applause: Wilmette Junior High School Drama teacher Dinah Barthelmess was awarded funds for tools and materials that will allow students to build sets for productions in a safe, efficient manner.
World Environments Learning Laboratory: Romona School teachers Catherine Taylor, Sue Janusz, and Bev Taylor were awarded funds for an interactive outdoor learning lab and garden. This project will focus on the ecology of the native environments of all seven continents and the role they play in diverse cultures, and will provide hands-on learning for students.
Gripp Grant applications are available at the schools and online. The next deadline is February 15, 2007.
