Some of the Foundation grants in 2005-2006
Outdoor Classroom The Foundation was proud to participate with District 39 parents in the Wilmette Junior High Outdoor Classroom, specifically the Stone Council Ring. ($10,000)
Disability Awareness Week A week long program raising awareness and educating students regarding disabilities of all kinds. ($3,500)
Highcrest Fitness Center A multi use facility to be used by all students, primarily those unable to participate in regular P.E. classes or recess due to temporary physical injuries or ongoing physical or developmental needs. ($5,180)
Films Aren’t Just for Watching French films to teach French culture and language at Highcrest Middle School. ($243)
Mural Restoration An ongoing partnership established with Harper School to restore two 1938 murals by Gustaf Dahlstrom located in the auditorium. Involves both restoration research and additional fund raising guidance. The project was recently highlighted in North Shore Magazine.
A Day in the Neighborhood An extension of a previously Foundation funded project, The Virtual Museum. Third graders at Central School will get a close up look at immigration by visiting ethnic neighborhoods for learning and lunch, including guest speakers teaching about a culture through its art and dance. ($3,721.90)
Professional Development Pursuant to its Long Term Strategic Plan, the Foundation is supporting professional development. Grants were awarded during ’05-06’enabling curriculum differentiation staff members to attend a Gifted Children Conference
