The Foundation counts down 39 Days to Spring!!

The District 39 Educational Foundation held a community celebration in downtown Wilmette on Saturday, February 10, 2007th. Many merchants participated with sales, drawings, storytelling and mini-manicures! There were special performances by Barrel of Monkeys at the Wilmette Theatre, mini-manicures at Links, Sweet Bean and the Higher Gear bike shop, and storytelling at Lad and Lassie.

The picture book is about a librarian who accidentally drives her bookmobile into a zoo. Wild About Books is one of the books nominated for the 2007 Monarch Choice Book Award.

Wow! Performers from Skyline Studios brave the frigid temperature. They did a terrific job with their singing and dancing.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, The District 39 Educational Foundation has been supporting schools in the district and providing free community events for all residents since 1993; and,

WHEREAS, the District 39 Educational Foundation is an independent volunteer group which is responsible for raising and granting funds for projects which expand, enrich and complement educational opportunities for the students, staff, and the community in District 39; and, .

WHEREAS, the District 39 Educational Foundation provides programs and materials that our community is not able to provide through tax dollars alone; and,

WHEREAS, the District 39 Educational Foundation depends on fundraising events and donations to support its grant giving program; and,

WHEREAS, the District 39 Educational Foundation has arranged, together with many merchants downtown and elsewhere in the Village to celebrate a “39 Days Until Spring” event on February 10th to raise awareness of the Foundation’s mission and goals; and,

WHEREAS, designating February 10th as District 39 Educational Foundation Day will contribute to that effort and encourage people to come and explore the offerings;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher S. Canning, Village President, Village of Wilmette, do hereby proclaim February 10th, 2007 to be DISTRICT 39 EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION DAY in the Village of Wilmette and encourage all residents to participate in its “39 Days Until Spring “events honoring the contributions of the District 39 Educational Foundation.
