FAN Explores Character Development in Your Family

Wednesday, November 20, 2002  12:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  New Trier High School, Northfield Campus  Building C, Room 234

The recent epidemic of mind-boggling corporate greed has left many wondering what has happened to ethics and morality in today’s world. At FAN’s November 20th meeting, the focus will be on how we can help to teach our children ethical values such as honesty, courage and self discipline- values that are critical to their success in both the academic and "real" worlds. Children who have strongly developed values exhibit the strength of character that will protect them from the potentially negative influence of peer pressure and our consumer culture.

Join FAN for a brief presentation by Mariclare Peak, Licensed Professional Counselor and Program Director at Highland Park Youth Services. Ms. Peak is also a trained educator for the "Character Counts!," a nationwide initiative to promote character and ethics education in schools.

Following the presentation, we will have small discussion groups to share ideas about teaching character and ethics at home. We will refer to the book Teaching Your Children Values, by Linda and Richard Eyre, as a starting point for our discussions, although it is not necessary to have read the book in order to participate meaningfully in the program. The program takes place at 12:45 p.m. at New Trier High School—Northfield Campus, Building C, Room 234. Please contact your school liaison or visit the FAN web site www.fan-ntts.org for further information.
