Popular speaker Dr. Stuart Twemlow, MD returns to update parents on modern-day bullying practices and remedies. Dr. Twemlow is the director of the Peaceful Schools and Communities Project of The Child and Family Program, The Menninger Clinic, Baylor College of Medicine, and a nationally-recognized psychiatric expert on the social architecture of bullying. His focus for this lecture will be on the “power triangle” of bully, target and bystander, with new light shed on the crucial role of the bystander and how to encourage him/her to take action. Learn the crucial difference between a child with a healthy competitive streak and a child seeking to exploit power imbalances by force, intimidation and humiliation. Discover how bullying manifests itself today in all its subtle and overt forms, and gain insight into why and how adults may model negative dominance practices themselves.
